Community Chess

Community Chess

You may have noticed the chess table waiting to be installed in the courtyard of building #325.  This installation is part of the overall Courtyard Replacement project, aimed at improving curb appeal and ammenities for residences.

At the Resident Council meeting it was suggested that more of these tables would be installed in other courtyards.  My first thought was that this might raise the noise in the courtyard, but on second thought checkers and chess tend to be strategic, thinking games.  I however, am looking forward for a table to picnic at!

There are 2 community rooms in the campus (bldgs 210 & 325) that are available for residents to rent between noon and 9pm.  The co-op charges $300 for 4 hrs, which includes 30 min for set up and 30 min for clean up.  There is also a $200 refundable deposit.  AND fees and applications must be submitted 3 weeks prior to rental date. oh, last thing – space is limited to only 30 people.

Its nice to know these spaces are available, but it seems that both the cost and the timeline are very prohibitive to any resident actually ever renting this space.  We as shareholders are already paying the mortgage on this space, the shared utilities, as well as the salaries for the maintenance of the space, so why the $500 cost and why the advanced 3 weeks?

An application form can be picked up from and submitted to the management office.
